Cary Mom’s Group Holds Raffle

The Cary Mom’s Group, a club consisting of 72 Moms, is holding a raffle to raise money for Turning Point. The Mom’s Group established in April 2006 will sell tickets through November 4th.
Grand prize is a spectacular evening out package.
A deluxe Limousine from Exotic Coach Limo takes the winner & a guest for dinner at Melting Pot in Arlington Heights valued at over $1000.
First Prize is a gift basket from Tastefully Simple and Southern Living at Home valued at over $130.
Second prize is a gift assortment from True Value Company valued at $95.
Proceeds from the raffle will be split between Turning Point and The Cary Mom’s Group. Raffle tickets ($5 each or 5 for $20) may be purchased by going to www.carymomsgroup.com/raffle.

The evening will feature dinner, entertainment and both a silent and live auction with items donated by area merchants.
This year, in honor of the “Silver Anniversary” of the event, the auction will be a tribute to the “Silver Screen” with a theme of “One Night in Hollywood.”
Attendees are urged to wear black & white attire.

Turning Point to Hold Plant Sale
Saturday May 12 | 10am to 1pm
Turning Point, McHenry County ’s advocate for victims of domestic violence, will benefit from a plant sale held at the Turning Point Greenhouse Saturday May 12 from 10 AM to 1 PM. The sale will feature bedding plants and baskets of colorful annuals and perennials. The sale has been put together by Master Gardener Ann Huetter, a volunteer at the Greenhouse. Plants have been donated by gardeners and garden clubs from across McHenry County and 100% of proceeds will go to Turning Point. This is the second year that the plant sale has been held at the Turning Point Greenhouse.
The Greenhouse was reopened in 2006 as a classroom for Special Education District of McHenry County (SEDOM) and as a place to do horticulture therapy with the children of Turning Point. The Greenhouse is located on the Turning Point grounds, just east of Farm & Fleet in Woodstock on Route 14. Please call for further directions: (815) 338 8081.
In addition to this Plant Sale, Huetter has worked with Special Education District of McHenry County (SEDOM) and Turning Point’s Children’s groups to plant trees on the Turning Point grounds.
Birthday Girl Collects Gifts for Shelter
8 year old Holly makes Special Request
Holly Carlson had an unusual wish list for her 8th Birthday. Instead of asking for gifts for herself, she asked guests to bring presents for the Children of Turning Point. Turning Point is McHenry County's advocate for victims of domestic violence and serves over 200 children each year. Guests brought games, toys and books for kids. Holly delivered the gifts with her parents, Chris & Sandra Carlson and her brother Evan.
Clay Sculpture Demo at Conscious Cup
Gail Harris from Two Crows Art Studio
Gail Harris will demonstrate and sell her unusual clay sculptures at Conscoius Cup Roastery & Cafe in Crystal Lake. Gail will donate a portion of the sales to Turning Point of Woodstock.

Volunteer 40 Hour Training
Schedules for Prospective Volunteers
Turning Point will conduct a training session for prospective volunteers for the domestic violence agency. The 40-hour domestic violence training program is required by the state of Illinois for those staff and volunteers who work in direct contact with the clients. Volunteers trained through this program would be certified to help answering Crisis Program calls (In-house and On-call) or as a Group Facilitator or Shelter Volunteer.
Volunteer crisis counselors provide crisis counseling, reflective listening, referral information, and support to those living with Domestic Violence. People interested in joining this class should call volunteer coordinator Roz Zarecky (815 338 8081) for more information. Classes will typically be on Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday evenings beginning April 24 and one Saturday on May 5.
Turning Point is a state recognized provider of this Illinois Coalition against Domestic Violence training program. Trainings are conducted by Turning Point staff.
"Gallery in the Garden" Seeking Artists
Second Annual Art Show Fundraiser benefits Turning Point
“Gallery in the Garden” art show will be held in Woodstock on July 28, 2007. It celebrates Art & Nature and is seeking artists. The show is organized by Gale Harris and Deb Glaubke and raises money for Turning Point, McHenry County’s advocate for victims of domestic violence. Artists interested in participating should call Turning Point at 815-338-8081 for an application.
“Gallery in the Garden” gets its name from its unique location in a private garden at 600 Lawndale Avenue in Woodstock, featuring a water garden, a Japanese-inspired Garden and a lily garden, among others. Last year’s show featured 25 area artists in all formats of artistic endeavors. In addition, there were prizes relating to the garden theme for attendees to win as well as food & drink available. This year, organizers are planning on 35 artists.
Turning Point Celebrates 26 Years!
Annual Dinner Thursday April 19, 2007
Celebrates 26 years of Service to McHenry County Turning Point will host its’ Annual Dinner Thursday April 19, 2007 at the Crystal Lake Country Club.
Awards
Various awards will be presented at the dinner by the Board of Directors. Judge Gordon Graham and Karen Mensching will both be presented with the “Peace and Justice” Award, honoring those who make our world a more peaceful place.
Receiving the “Partnership” award will be the McHenry/Cook Professional Women’s Group. MCPWG has worked with Turning Point since its inception and sponsored the recent Shelter House Warming, celebrating the opening of Turning Point’s secure shelter for victims of Domestic Violence.
Radio Station Star 105.5 and Morning Air Personality Paula McKay will be honored for their involvement in last summer’s radiothon “Take a Stand for Turning Point” which raised over $80,000. McKay stayed on the air for 36 hours, collecting pledges on air. Star 105.5 will receive the Partnership award and McKay will accept the “Dreamweaver” award, given each year to a volunteer who made a difference in the world.
In addition to the presentation of awards, the evening will feature a key note speech by Chris Krug of the Northwest Herald and music by the McHenry County Youth Orchestra string quartet. There will also be a “50/50” Raffle at the dinner. Winner need not be present to win and raffle tickets ($25 each or 5 for $100) may be obtained by calling Turning Point at 815 338 8081. The evening kicks off with a cash bar & reception at 6:30 PM on April 19, with dinner and program to follow. Turning Point holds Wine Tasting
March 4, 2007 at Dunnhill’s Restaurant
Turning Point, McHenry County’s advocate for victims of domestic violence will hold a wine tasting fund raiser at Dunnhill’s Restaurant in McHenry on Sunday, March 4 from 1 to 4 PM. Marc & Denise Munaretto are honorary hosts of the event which will raise funds to support Turning Point & it’s mission to confront violence against women & children in McHenry county.
The event will feature hot & cold hors d’oeuvres and wines from all the major wine producing regions of the world. Last year’s event raised over $2000 for Turning Point. Beyond the Call Community Awards
Turning Point receives grant from AT&T Illinois
AT&T Illinois presented Turning Point, McHenry County’s advocate for victims of domestic violence, a $4,000 grant to further the group’s mission to confront violence against women & children in McHenry County. Turning Point was named as recipients of “AT&T Illinois Beyond the Call Community Awards.” The AT&T Illinois “Beyond the Call Community Awards” were created to provide special recognition to organizations that are expanding economic development opportunities and providing essential community service programs to improve the quality of life in Illinois.
Local leaders and elected officials assisted AT&T Illinois in nominating recipients for Beyond the Call Community Awards. Among those involved in the selection process were State Representatives Jack Franks and Mike Tryon and State Senator Pam Althoff. The grant was announced by Senator Althoff at the opening of the Turning Point Shelter in December. Turning Point recently opened the county’s only secure shelter for victims of domestic violence.
Rockin’ Rotary Ribfest
Lake in the Hills Rotary donates $500
The Lake in the Hills Rotary recently presented a check to Turning Point. The check represented a portion of proceeds from last summer’s "Rockin’ Rotary Ribfest", a family event held at Sunset Park featuring bands, entertainment and, of course, Ribs.

Boulder Ridge Annual Fundraiser
Christmas Luncheon Raises $23,000
At their annual Christmas Luncheon, the Boulder Ridge Women’s Club raised over $23,000 for Turning Point, McHenry County’s Advocate for victims of Domestic Violence. The luncheon featured raffles and a fund raising auction. The Group has raised money for Turning Point at its holiday lunch for over 10 years.
In 2006, Turning Point honored the Boulder Ridge Women’s Club with their Partnership Award, thanking the group for their continuing support of the agency. The 460 attendees at the lunch were asked to bring an item for use at the agency, such as copy paper, Baby wipes, and tissue or paper products. A truckload of items were collected.
