Loaded with experience- including volunteering at TP!

Great article about one of our TP volunteers in the NW Herald:

The 2009 cross country season proved to be quite momentous for area runners.

The Beattie sisters, Kayla and Elise, finished first and third in the IHSA Class 2A State Meet. Dundee-Crown’s Anthony Manfrin and Cary-Grove’s Phil Fairleigh, previously snakebitten in state races, earned medals in the Class 3A boys race.

Most of the top girls runners, led by Kayla Beattie, return.

Radiothon help appreciated

A letter to the editor in today’s Northwest Herald:

Star 105.5 held its fifth “Take a Stand for Turning Point” radiothon Aug. 6-7. The radiothon is Turning Point’s largest annual fundraiser. This 36-hour event requires the efforts of quite literally hundreds of people, and I want to thank all of them.

It would not be possible without the efforts of more than 100 volunteers, including those who performed and spoke at the event and those who conducted fundraisers and activities to raise money in advance of the weekend. We are indebted to our major sponsors, including Sage Products, McDonald’s, Algonquin Commons, the Northwest Herald, and Centegra Health System. We are grateful for each of the hundreds of donations made to Turning Point and the donations that continue to come in through our website, www.McHenryCountyTurningPoint.org.

And of course, we must thank Star 105.5 for the station’s dedication to our mission to confront violence against women and children in McHenry County. We appreciate the funds raised, but we are even more grateful for the chance to spend 36 hours educating McHenry County about domestic violence and the services we provide at Turning Point.

On behalf of the staff, board and clients of Turning Point, I thank you.

Volunteer(s) Needed ASAP

From our Volunteer coordinator Jennifer Kenning:

The remodel of our second floor has begun and it has been brought to our attention that a row of hedges needs to be removed ASAP!  The hedges are in the way of where the new exterior stairs are going to be built.  The hedges need to be cut down to the ground, which will require a chainsaw and the row is about 15 feet long. This remodel is very important as it is adding some much needed security measures. Please contact me if you would be willing to help with this project.

Thank you,

School Supplies Needed!

From our volunteer coordinator Jennifer Kenning:

We received a generous pile of donated school supplies from St. Margaret Mary Church in Algonquin, from the Sybaquay Council Girl Scout Camp and from a number of individuals, but the need is great and our supplies are going fast!  If you happen to be out shopping and would pick up a few extra school supply items to donate we would be very grateful.

We have a good supply of crayons but are really in need of everything else.  Here is a list of suggestions:

Backpacks

Supply boxes or pencil bags

Pens

Pocket Folders

Spiral Notebooks

1” and 1 ½ “3-Ring Binders

Basic Calculators

Scissors

Markers

Colored Pencils

Highlighters

Dry Erase Markers

Book Covers

Notecards

Thank you for your help!

Thanks for Taking a Stand!

july-2010-014

That’s just a fraction of the folks it took to put together “Take a Stand for Turning Point” this weekend! TP staff, Star staff, volunteers from all over our area all turned out to make it possible! Thank you!

And it is NOT too late to be a part of it! Donations are STILL coming in to the office (815 338 8081) and to the “donate Now” button on the Turning Point Website! These ladies have the right idea:
