“On top of prosecuting criminal cases and representing the county in civil matters, the State’s Attorney’s Office has authority to act on children’s behalf in specific paternity and child-support cases. Generally, Bianchi’s office keeps tabs on 250 or so cases, but the workload is increasing with the poor economy and the growing number of children born out of wedlock.
“Whether it’s $10 or $37,000, our goal is to get the non-custodial parent to pay,” Bianchi said.”
Need help?
Call the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office at 815-334-4159 or stop by the office at 2200 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock, to determine whether that office or the Illinois Attorney General’s Office in Rockford can help you collect back child support.

Congrats! From the Northwest Herald:
It’s not particularly hard to find the best nursing team in a three-state area. Area residents just have to look to Barrington or Crystal Lake.
The emergency department nurses at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington recently were named the 2010 Best Nursing Team for the greater Chicago and metro areas of Wisconsin and Indiana by industry magazine Advance for Nurses.
The staff, which rotates to provide service at Advocate’s Crystal Lake Immediate Care Center, was honored for their initiative, adaptability, expertise and outreach, the magazine said.

The national bakery and restaurant chain launched a new nonprofit store here this week that has the same menu as its other 1,400 locations. But the prices are a little different — there aren’t any. Customers are told to donate what they want for a meal, whether it’s the full suggested price, a penny or $100.
The new store in the upscale St. Louis suburb of Clayton is the first of what will Panera hopes will be many around the country. Ronald Shaich, Panera’s CEO until last week, was on hand at the new bakery Monday to explain the system to customers.
The pilot restaurant is run by a nonprofit foundation. If it can sustain itself financially, Panera will expand the model around the country within months. It all depends on whether customers will abide by the motto that hangs above the deli counter: “Take what you need, leave your fair share.”
You can read the whole fascinating story in the Chicago Tribune. Incidentally, Panera donates bread & other goodies to Turning Point each week, which are used in our shelter or given to clients.

You can read the whole story in the NW Herald:
Cheryl, a Crystal Lake mother, told board members about the plight of her son. She recounted the abuse he suffered, his drug use, and mental health problems. The Northwest Herald does not identify the victims of sexual abuse.
“My son is in jail now and will be for a long time. This is the most devastating thing that has ever happened to my family,” she said. “I am really hoping that we can, as a community, try to address the needs of our youth who are involved in the criminal system and the needs of our families who experience the loss of a loved one to the system.”
She was not alone. Scott Bloc, the special courts coordinator for McHenry County, requested continued funding for addiction treatment as the county moves forward with the creation of a drug court program.
“We ask you, the Mental Health Board, to include substance abuse treatment services as a priority in your upcoming three-year plan,” he said.
