MCC Equality Club to Host Comedy Fundraisers

McHenry County College’s Equality Club will hold a series of comedy events to benefit local non-profits.

The first event is a comedy writing class taught by Matt Drufke and Lewis Rhine. The class will be held on March 17th at 4:00 PM at MCC. This class will give aspiring comedians a basic grounding in writing comedy and constructing a routine. The class is free of charge and all participants will be guaranteed a spot in the March 31st amateur stand up contest.

The amateur contest will be held at the MCC conference center and feature amateur comedians from the McHenry County area.  Aspiring comedians should prepare a five minute routine and call Talia at 815-455-8772 to register. The winner of the contest will receive a professional slot opening for Comedian Matt Drufke. Admission to the event will be $5 and all door receipts will benefit Turning Point, McHenry County’s only domestic violence agency and shelter.  The contest kicks off at 7:00 pm at the MCC conference center and feature emcees Matt Drufke and Lewis Rhine.

On April 15th, The Equality club will present a Comedy Showcase featuring Lewis Rhine, Joe Motisi, Drew Michael, and Cameron Esposito. Also performing will be the winner of the amateur contest and the evening will be hosted by Matt Drufke.  The admission to the showcase will be $5, with proceeds going to Pride Call, a new local phone line to assist gay, lesbian, bisexual and questioning individuals. The event will be held at the MCC conference center on April 15th at 7:00 PM. At all three events, refreshments will be sold by the Equality Club.
